Bodija market traders are up in arms against the chairman Ibadan North Local chairman, Hon. Shuiab Oladayo also known as Agba Ẹgbẹ for trying to impose Akeem Emiola as the caretaker-chairman of Bodija market. Investigation showed that the trouble broke out in the market when current executive in the market led by Alh. Hamidu Musediku Adebukola popularly known as Baba-Obinrin was about to wind down. Alh. Hamidu Musediku Adebukola whose tenure was believed to be very glorious showed no interest in recontesting. However while others signified their intention, the council chairman is believed to be favourably disposed to the candidacy of Akeem Emiola who was believed to have spent 16 years as market executive with little or nothing to show for it.
Many traders who have confidence in ballot🗳️ box have prevailed on the chairman not to impose Akeem Emiola under a caretaker committee arrangement. They warned that if Akeem Emiola is popular enough, he should be allowed to contest along with others to test his popularity. According to the traders, the only reason for a caretaker committee arrangement is where there is a rancour among members, adding that as far as Bodija market is concerned, there is no rancour.
The traders urged the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde who himself is a product of free and fair election to please wade in to avoid breakdown of law and order in the market.
